  • SLC2A9, also designated GLUT9 or URATv1, is a facilitative glucose transporter family member that primarily acts as a high-capacity urate transporter.
  • Functional characterization demonstrates that SLC2A9 transports urate at rates 45–60 fold higher than glucose; it also exhibits residual low-affinity glucose and fructose transport, does not transport galactose, and mediates small adenine uptake.   • The protein localizes predominantly to the cell membrane, with specific isoforms targeted to basolateral or apical membranes in polarized renal epithelial cells and placenta.
