Biological Background: SLC25A23 Function and Localization
- SLC25A23, also known as mitochondrial adenyl nucleotide antiporter SLC25A23 or SCaMC-3, is a member of the solute carrier family 25 and functions as an electroneutral antiporter in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
- It mediates the transport of adenine nucleotides, originally identified as an ATP-magnesium/inorganic phosphate antiporter but also acting as a broad specificity adenyl nucleotide antiporter, thereby regulating the mitochondrial matrix adenine nucleotide pool to adapt to changing cellular energetic demands. - SLC25A23 also serves as a regulator of mitochondrial calcium uptake and can transport trace amounts of other divalent metal cations in complex with ATP. Related references: PMID:24430870, PMID:28695448
- In vitro, a low activity is observed with guanyl and pyrimidine nucleotides. Related references: PMID:15123600
- The protein is localized to the mitochondrial inner membrane.

- In immunofluorescence/ICC, optimize fixation and permeabilization protocols to detect mitochondrial localization. Co-staining with a mitochondrial marker is recommended.
- The antibody is suitable for ELISA; validate the assay conditions with relevant recombinant protein or peptide standards.
- As a polyclonal antibody, batch-to-batch consistency should be verified, and pre-adsorption controls may be useful for confirming specificity.
