- SLC24A5, also known as NCKX5, JSX, OCA6, or SHEP4, is a member of the solute carrier family 24 and functions as a potassium-dependent sodium/calcium exchanger.
- It acts as a calcium/potassium:sodium antiporter, moving 1 Ca²⁺ and 1 K⁺ into the melanosome while exporting 4 Na⁺ ions.
