Biological Background: SLC19A1 (Reduced Folate Transporter) Function and Localization
- SLC19A1, also known as reduced folate transporter (RFC), hRFC, intestinal folate carrier 1 (IFC-1), or RFT-1, is encoded by the SLC19A1 gene (also FLOT1, RFC1) and belongs to the solute carrier family 19.
- Functions as an antiporter that mediates the import of reduced folates and a subset of cyclic dinucleotides, driven by intracellular organic anion export. Related references: PMID:10787414, PMID:15337749, PMID:16115875
