Biological Background: SGPL1 Function and Localization

• SGPL1 encodes sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase 1 (S1P lyase), also known as sphingosine-1-phosphate aldolase, a key enzyme in sphingolipid metabolism.
• This enzyme cleaves phosphorylated sphingoid bases (PSBs) such as sphingosine-1-phosphate into fatty aldehydes and phosphoethanolamine, thereby regulating stress-induced ceramide production, apoptosis, and global lipid homeostasis. It also modulates inflammatory responses, neutrophil trafficking, and neuronal autophagy (By similarity).
