- The protein may play a role in the proliferation or differentiation of keratinocytes, the predominant cell type in the epidermis.
- It is predominantly localized to the cytoplasm, consistent with its function as an intracellular protease inhibitor.
- Expression is skin-specific, with high levels in keratinocytes, and it is downregulated by UV irradiation in HaCaT cells.
