- Encoded by the ATP2A2 gene, SERCA2 (also known as calcium pump 2) is a P-type ATPase responsible for transporting calcium ions from the cytosol into the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum lumen, a process essential for muscle relaxation and cellular calcium homeostasis (PubMed:12542527, PubMed:16402920).
