Biological Background: SEPN1 Function and Localization
- Selenoprotein N (SEPN1) is an endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein that protects cells from oxidative stress and regulates redox-related calcium homeostasis.
- It protects the ER calcium pump ATP2A2 from ERO1A-mediated oxidative damage by reducing cysteinyl sulfenic acid to free thiol, restoring pump activity. Related references: PMID:25452428
