Biological Background: SENP2 Function and Localization
- SENP2 (Sentrin-specific protease 2) is a SUMO-specific protease that catalyzes both the maturation of SUMO propeptides and the deconjugation of SUMO from modified proteins. Related references: PMID:11896061 PMID:12192048 PMID:15296745
- It hydrolyzes the C-terminal peptide bonds of SUMO1, SUMO2, and SUMO3 to generate mature forms, a prerequisite for SUMO conjugation. Related references: PMID:15296745
