Biological Background: SDHB Function and Localization

• SDHB encodes the iron-sulfur (Ip) subunit of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), also known as mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II.
• The SDH complex catalyzes the oxidation of succinate to fumarate in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and transfers electrons to ubiquinone via its iron-sulfur clusters (PubMed:26925370, PubMed:27604842). Related references: PMID:26925370 PMID:27604842
• The protein coordinates [2Fe-2S], [3Fe-4S], and [4Fe-4S] clusters that mediate electron transport.
