Biological Background: SDHA Function and Localization

SDHA encodes the flavoprotein subunit of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), an enzyme complex (complex II) of the mitochondrial electron transport chain that couples succinate oxidation to ubiquinone reduction (PubMed:10746566, PubMed:24781757).

The protein also catalyzes the oxidation of malate to enol-oxaloacetate, a potent SDH inhibitor that is subsequently isomerized to keto-oxaloacetate (By similarity).
