Biological Background: SCYL2 Function and Localization

• SCYL2 (SCY1-like protein 2, also known as coated vesicle-associated kinase of 104 kDa/CVAK104) is a component of the AP2-containing clathrin coat, likely regulating clathrin-dependent trafficking at the plasma membrane, trans-Golgi network (TGN), and endosomal system.
• A possible serine/threonine-protein kinase activity toward the beta2-subunit of the AP2 adaptor complex and other substrates in the presence of poly-L-lysine has been reported but remains unconfirmed. Related references: PMID:15809293 PMID:16914521
• By regulating synaptic excitatory receptor expression, SCYL2 plays an essential role in neuronal function, signaling, and brain development (by similarity).
