Biological Background: SCD5 Function and Localization
- Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 5 (SCD5), also known as ACOD4, HSCD5, SCD2, or SCD4, is an enzyme involved in lipid metabolism.
- Catalyzes the introduction of a cis double bond at the delta-9 position into saturated fatty acyl-CoAs such as palmitoyl-CoA and stearoyl-CoA, using O₂ and cytochrome b5. Related references: PMID:15610069, PMID:15907797, PMID:22745828
- Localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, consistent with its role in fatty acid desaturation.
- Expressed in the adult brain and pancreas, with lower levels in kidney and lung; during fetal development, detected in brain and kidney, and specifically in spiral ganglion cells and the organ of Corti of the cochlea. Related references: PMID:31972369
- Involved in the regulation of neuronal cell proliferation and differentiation by down-regulating EGFR/AKT/MAPK and Wnt signaling pathways. Related references: PMID:22745828

- The immunogen was designed from amino acids 1-75 of human SCD5 (NP_001032671.2). Ensure that your target epitope is represented in the sample or assay format.
- For Western blot (WB), consider the predicted molecular weight of ~38 kDa; note that the calculated molecular weight from UniProt is ~37.6 kDa.
- For immunofluorescence/immunocytochemistry (IF/ICC), validate with appropriate negative controls and consider co-staining with ER markers to confirm membrane localization.
