Biological Background: SCAF4 Function and Localization
- SCAF4 (SR-related and CTD-associated factor 4), also known as SRA4 and SFRS15, is encoded by the SCAF4 gene (KIAA1172) in humans.
- Functions as an anti-terminator protein that prevents early mRNA termination during transcription by suppressing premature polyadenylation, together with SCAF8. Related references: PMID:31104839
- Associates with the phosphorylated C-terminal domain (CTD) of RNA polymerase II and binds nascent RNA upstream of early poly(A) sites to block cleavage and polyadenylation. Related references: PMID:31104839

- Localizes to the nucleus.
