  • Acts as a transcriptional repressor or activator by inducing local chromatin-loop remodeling and serving as a docking platform for chromatin-modifying enzymes such as histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and deacetylases (HDACs), thereby regulating gene expression.
  • Plays a crucial role in T-cell development by modulating genes essential for the maturation of CD8 single-positive thymocytes.
  • Mediates X chromosome inactivation during embryogenesis by acting as a silencing factor downstream of Xist RNA.
  • Regulates globin gene switching during erythroid differentiation, controlling fetal and adult hemoglobin expression.
  • Facilitates HIV-1 integration by creating a favored chromatin context at Alu-like motifs, and HIV-1 Tat protein can override SATB1-mediated repression of interleukin genes.
