• Within the DGC, sarcospan preferentially associates with the sarcoglycan subcomplex, contributing to the mechanical linkage between the F-actin cytoskeleton and the extracellular matrix in muscle cells.
• The SSPN gene undergoes alternative splicing, giving rise to multiple isoforms. Isoform 1 exhibits exclusive expression in heart and skeletal muscle, whereas isoform 2 shows broader tissue distribution including thymus, prostate, testis, ovary, small intestine, colon, and spleen.
