- Sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 3 (S1PR3), also designated as EDG3, LPB3, S1P3, or EDG-3, is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family.
- It serves as a high-affinity receptor for the lysosphingolipid sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P), a bioactive lipid mediator involved in numerous cellular processes.
- In rat hepatoma cells, S1PR3 has been shown to mediate S1P-induced cell proliferation and suppression of apoptosis, highlighting its role in cell survival signaling.
- S1PR3 localizes primarily to the cell membrane, consistent with its function as a transmembrane receptor.
- It is widely expressed across human tissues, with particularly high expression levels observed in the heart, placenta, kidney, and liver.
- The receptor undergoes post-translational modifications, including glycosylation and phosphorylation, and features multiple transmembrane helices characteristic of GPCRs.
