Biological Background: RUNX1 Function and Localization
- RUNX1 (Runt-related transcription factor 1), also known as AML1 or CBFA2, is a member of the RUNX family that plays a pivotal role in hematopoiesis and immune cell development. It encodes multiple isoforms, including AML-1G and AML-1L, which differ in DNA-binding affinity and functional activities.
- RUNX1 forms a heterodimeric core-binding factor (CBF) complex with CBFB, which binds to the consensus sequence 5'-TGTGGT-3' in the regulatory regions of target genes, thereby modulating their transcription.
