Biological Background: RPS19BP1 Function and Localization
- Also known as AROS (Active Regulator of SIRT1) and S19BP, RPS19BP1 is a 40S ribosomal protein S19-binding protein that functions both in ribosome biogenesis and as a direct regulator of SIRT1 deacetylase activity.
- As a component of the small subunit (SSU) processome in the nucleolus, RPS19BP1 acts as a chaperone that specifically mediates the integration of RPS19 into the pre-40S ribosomal subunit during late steps of ribosome assembly. Related references: PMID:34516797
- RPS19BP1 directly binds and enhances SIRT1 deacetylation of p53/TP53, leading to inhibition of p53-mediated transcriptional activity and implicating the protein in cell survival and stress response pathways. Related references: PMID:17964266
