Biological Background: RGL2 (DELLA Protein) Function and Localization
- DELLA protein RGL2 (RGA-like 2) is a member of the GRAS family of plant-specific transcriptional regulators, also designated AtGRAS-15 or SCL19.
- Acts as a key repressor of gibberellin (GA) signaling by forming multiprotein complexes that inhibit transcription of GA-responsive genes; degraded via the proteasome upon GA perception, thereby triggering GA responses.
- Major repressor of seed germination, including thermoinhibition; promotes abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis in seed coats to maintain dormancy and mediates glucose-induced delay of germination (PubMed:24989044). Related references: PMID:24989044
- Delays flowering and vegetative phase change; regulates floral organ development (petals, stamens, anthers) by restraining growth; activity modulated by auxin and ethylene.
