Biological Background: Rap1A Function and Localization

  • Rap1A, or Ras-related protein 1A, is a small GTPase of the Ras superfamily, also known as C21KG, G-22K, GTP-binding protein smg p21A, and Krev-1.
  • It counteracts the mitogenic function of Ras by competitively interacting with Ras GAPs and RAF. Related references: PMID:17916086
  • Together with ITGB1BP1, Rap1A regulates KRIT1 localization to microtubules and membranes. Related references: PMID:17916086
  • Plays a role in nerve growth factor (NGF)-induced neurite outgrowth.
