- RABAC1, also known as PRA1 family protein 1, is a prenylated Rab acceptor protein that acts as a general Rab protein regulator required for vesicle formation from the Golgi complex.
- It may control vesicle docking and fusion by mediating the action of Rab GTPases on SNARE complexes, and it inhibits the removal of Rab GTPases from membranes by GDI.
- RABAC1 localizes to multiple cellular compartments, including the cell membrane, cytoplasm, Golgi apparatus, cytoplasmic vesicles, secretory vesicles, and synaptic vesicles.
- The protein is expressed ubiquitously, with strongest expression in placenta, pituitary gland, kidney, lung, and stomach.
