Biological Background: RAB2A Function and Localization
- RAB2A is a small GTPase of the Rab family, cycling between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states, and serves as a key regulator of intracellular membrane trafficking, from the formation of transport vesicles to their fusion with membranes. Related references: PMID:37821429
- It regulates autophagy by promoting autophagosome-lysosome fusion through recruitment of the HOPS endosomal tethering complex; autophagosomal RAB2A and lysosomal RAB39A cooperatively recruit HOPS subcomplexes to mediate membrane tethering and SNARE-driven fusion. Related references: PMID:37821429
- Required for protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi complex and maintains the compacted morphology of the Golgi apparatus. Related references: PMID:26209634
