Biological Background: RAB28 Function and Localization

• RAB28 is a member of the Ras-related Rab subfamily of small GTPases, which function as molecular switches cycling between GDP-bound inactive and GTP-bound active states to regulate intracellular membrane trafficking events, including vesicle formation, transport, tethering, and fusion. • Specifically, RAB28 has been implicated in the shedding and phagocytosis of cone cell outer segment discs in the retina (By similarity).
• Additionally, RAB28 participates in the nuclear transport of NF-kB p65/RELA in endothelial cells (By similarity).
