Biological Background: PRP19 Function and Localization

• PRPF19 (Pre-mRNA-processing factor 19, also known as PRP19, SNEV, PSO4, NMP200, hPSO4) is a 55 kDa protein that serves as a ubiquitin-protein ligase and core component of multiple complexes involved in mRNA splicing and DNA repair.
• It is essential for pre-mRNA splicing as a component of the spliceosome (PubMed:28076346, PubMed:28502770, PubMed:29301961), and within the PRP19C/NTC complex, it catalyzes 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitination of the U4 snRNP protein PRPF3 to stabilize the U4/U5/U6 tri-snRNP (PubMed:20595234).
