• Serum paraoxonase/arylesterase 1 (PON1), also known as aromatic esterase 1, K-45, and serum aryldialkylphosphatase 1, is a secreted enzyme primarily associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma.
• PON1 hydrolyzes toxic metabolites of a broad spectrum of organophosphorus insecticides and can also hydrolyze lactones and aromatic carboxylic acid esters.
