Biological Background: PITRM1 Function and Localization
- PITRM1 is a mitochondrial matrix zinc metalloprotease belonging to the pitrilysin family, also designated as presequence protease (PreP) or metalloprotease 1 (hMP1).

- The enzyme processes mitochondrial transit peptides after their cleavage and degrades other unstructured peptides, playing a key role in mitochondrial peptide clearance. Related references: PMID:19196155
