Biological Background: PIBF1 Function and Localization

  • Progesterone-induced-blocking factor 1 (PIBF1) is a multifunctional protein also known as Centrosomal protein of 90 kDa (CEP90), encoded by the PIBF1 gene with several splice isoforms.
  • Acts as a pericentriolar protein required to maintain mitotic spindle pole integrity, and is essential for the centrosomal accumulation of PCM1 and recruitment of centriolar satellite proteins such as BBS4, thereby playing a role in primary cilia formation.
