Biological Background: CSF1R Function and Localization

• Macrophage colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (CSF1R), also known as CD115, M-CSF-R, and proto-oncogene c-Fms, is a cell-surface tyrosine-protein kinase encoded by the CSF1R gene.
• CSF1R serves as the receptor for colony-stimulating factor 1 (CSF1) and interleukin-34 (IL34), playing an essential role in regulating survival, proliferation, and differentiation of hematopoietic precursor cells, particularly mononuclear phagocytes such as macrophages and monocytes.
• The receptor is localized to the cell membrane and is expressed in bone marrow and differentiated blood mononuclear cells.
