Biological Background: PGK2 Function and Localization

• PGK2 is a testis-specific isoform of phosphoglycerate kinase, encoded by the PGK2 gene (also known as PGKB).
• Catalyzes the reversible conversion of 1,3-diphosphoglycerate to 3-phosphoglycerate, playing a central role in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis (By similarity).

• Localizes to the cytoplasm and is concentrated in the principal piece of the sperm flagellum.
