Biological Background: PEX2 Function and Localization

• PEX2, also known as peroxin-2, PMP35, or PAF-1, is a 35 kDa peroxisomal membrane protein and member of the peroxin family.
• PEX2 is an essential E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that forms the retrotranslocation channel with PEX10 and PEX12 to export PEX5 from peroxisomes, enabling PEX5 recycling (PubMed:24662292). Related references: PMID:24662292
