Biological Background: PCBD1 Function and Localization

• PCBD1, encoded by the PCBD1 gene, is a 12 kDa pterin-4-alpha-carbinolamine dehydratase that plays dual roles in tetrahydrobiopterin biosynthesis and HNF1-dependent transcriptional regulation.
• In tetrahydrobiopterin metabolism, PCBD1 prevents the accumulation of 7-pterins and promotes the formation of quinonoid-BH2 (By similarity).
• As a transcriptional coactivator, PCBD1 binds hepatocyte nuclear factor 1-alpha (HNF1A) and enhances its transcriptional activity by regulating HNF1A dimerization (By similarity).
