Biological Background: OTUB1 Function and Localization
- OTUB1 is a ubiquitin thioesterase that specifically cleaves 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitin chains from proteins, with much lower activity toward NEDD8; it does not cleave di-ubiquitin (PubMed:12401499, 12704427, 14661020, 18954305, 23827681). - It regulates T-cell anergy by interacting with RNF128/GRAIL: isoform 1 destabilizes RNF128 to prevent anergy, while isoform 2 stabilizes RNF128 and promotes anergy (PubMed:14661020). Related references: PMID:14661020
