• OPRL1 encodes the nociceptin receptor, also known as kappa-type 3 opioid receptor (KOR-3) or orphanin FQ receptor, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family.
• It serves as a receptor for the endogenous neuropeptide nociceptin/orphanin FQ, playing a key role in modulating pain perception and locomotor activity.
• Upon ligand binding, the receptor activates intracellular G proteins, leading to inhibition of adenylate cyclase and calcium channels, and can also signal through arrestin-mediated pathways to activate MAP kinases.
