Biological Background: OAZ1 Function and Localization
- OAZ1 (Ornithine decarboxylase antizyme 1), also known as AZ1, AZI, OAZ, is a key negative regulator of polyamine biosynthesis and uptake.
- It directly binds to ODC monomers, preventing the formation of the catalytically active ODC homodimer, and targets ODC monomers for ubiquitin-independent proteasomal degradation, partly by exposing a cryptic proteasome-interacting surface on ODC.
