Biological Background: NME6/NM23-H6 Function and Localization
- NME6, also known as nm23-H6 or IPIA-alpha, is a mitochondrial nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDPK) that catalyzes the transfer of a gamma-phosphoryl group from ATP to nucleoside diphosphates via a phosphohistidine intermediate. Related references: PMID:10618642, PMID:34789336, PMID:37770567
- As a monomer, NME6 lacks NDPK activity, requiring complex formation with RCC1L for catalytic function. Related references: PMID:34789336
- NME6 participates in the regulation of mitochondrial nucleotide levels, mitoribosome biogenesis, and mitochondrial RNA abundances, and is crucial for supplying pyrimidine ribonucleoside triphosphates (rNTPs) for mitochondrial transcription.
