Biological Background: NME1/NM23A Function and Localization
- NME1 (also known as NM23A, NDKA, NDPK-A, NM23-H1) is a nucleoside diphosphate kinase A that belongs to the NDK family.
- Catalyzes the transfer of a gamma-phosphoryl group from ATP to nucleoside diphosphates via a ping-pong mechanism, contributing to nucleoside triphosphate homeostasis. Related references: PMID:10952986, PMID:14960567, PMID:16313181
- Also functions as a non-specific serine/threonine kinase and histidine protein kinase, transferring phosphoryl groups to target proteins. Related references: PMID:8529641, PMID:9038158
