- Encoded by the NEU1 gene, sialidase-1 (neuraminidase-1) is a 45 kDa lysosomal exo-α-sialidase that catalyzes the removal of terminal sialic acid residues from glycoproteins and glycolipids. - Sialidase-1 exhibits substrate preference for α2-3 and α2-6 sialyl linkages, contributing to glycoconjugate catabolism and lipid degradation.
