- NEU1 encodes lysosomal sialidase-1, a member of the neuraminidase family, also referred to as acetylneuraminyl hydrolase, G9 sialidase, or lysosomal neuraminidase.
- It catalyzes the removal of terminal sialic acid (N-acetylneuraminic acid) residues from glycoproteins and glycolipids.
