Biological Background: NAT8 Function and Localization

  • NAT8 (N-acetyltransferase 8), also known as ATase2, Camello-like protein 1, CCNAT, or GLA, is a member of the GNAT family of N-acetyltransferases, with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 26 kDa.
  • As an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-membrane-bound enzyme, it catalyzes N6-acetylation of lysine residues in ER lumenal proteins such as PROM1 and BACE1, utilizing acetyl-CoA as the acetyl donor. Related references: PMID:19011241, PMID:22267734, PMID:24556617
