Biological Background: MTMR8 Function and Localization

• MTMR8 encodes phosphatidylinositol-3,5-bisphosphate 3-phosphatase, also known as myotubularin-related protein 8 or phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate phosphatase.
• It acts as a lipid phosphatase that specifically dephosphorylates phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PI3P) and phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2) at the D-3 position, producing phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate (PI5P).
