Biological Background: MMP3 Function and Localization

• MMP3 (Stromelysin-1) is a secreted zinc-dependent metalloproteinase with broad substrate specificity, degrading fibronectin, laminin, gelatins, collagens (III, IV, X, IX), and cartilage proteoglycans; it also activates growth factors, plasminogen, and other MMPs such as MMP9.
