• Matrix metalloproteinase-25 (MMP25), also known as leukolysin and membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase 6 (MT-MMP6), is a member of the matrix metalloproteinase family.
• It is a membrane-anchored protease with a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor, and can also be secreted into the extracellular space and matrix.
• MMP25 may activate progelatinase A, contributing to extracellular matrix remodeling and tissue turnover.
• Expressed predominantly in leukocytes, lung, and spleen, with elevated levels observed in colon carcinoma, astrocytoma, and glioblastoma, suggesting roles in inflammation and cancer progression.
