Biological Background: MDM2 Function and Localization

  • MDM2 is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that mediates ubiquitination of p53/TP53, targeting it for proteasomal degradation (PubMed:29681526). Related references: PMID:29681526
  • It inhibits p53/TP53- and p73/TP73-mediated cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and also ubiquitinates itself and ARRB1.
  • MDM2 permits nuclear export of p53/TP53 and promotes degradation of retinoblastoma protein RB1 and DAXX.
