Biological Background: MARCH8 (MARCHF8) Function and Localization
- MARCH8 (also known as c-MIR, RNF178, MARCH-VIII) is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase containing a RING finger domain that functions as a ubiquitin transferase in various immune pathways.
- It mediates ubiquitination of CD86 and MHC class II proteins (HLA-DR alpha and beta), promoting their endocytosis and lysosomal degradation, thus downregulating antigen presentation (PubMed:19117940, PubMed:19566897). Related references: PMID:19117940 PMID:19566897
