Biological Background: LILRA2/CD85h Function and Localization
- LILRA2 (also known as ILT1, LIR7, CD85H) is a leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor encoded by the LILRA2 gene in humans. It belongs to the LILR family and has multiple isoforms due to alternative splicing (predicted molecular weights: 53, 51, 48, 47 kDa).
- LILRA2 functions as an innate immune receptor that specifically recognizes N-terminally truncated immunoglobulins produced by bacterial and fungal proteases, thereby mediating host defense against pathogens such as L. pneumophila, S. aureus, and C. albicans. Related references: PMID:27572839
- Upon ligand binding, LILRA2 activates neutrophils and triggers the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL6, CXCL8) from monocytes, while downregulating TLR4-mediated responses to LPS. Related references: PMID:12529506 PMID:22479404
- In eosinophils, LILRA2 stimulation leads to degranulation and secretion of RNASE2, IL4, and leukotriene C4. Related references: PMID:12529506
