- Also known as Growth suppressor 1 (GROS1), Leprecan-1, and OI8; encoded by the P3H1 (LEPRE1) gene.
- Catalyzes the post-translational formation of 3-hydroxyproline in -Xaa-Pro-Gly- sequences of procollagen chains, a critical step for mature collagen trimer assembly. Related references: PMID:39245686
- May play a role in the cellular secretory pathway and has been reported to exhibit growth suppressive activity in fibroblasts.
- Localizes primarily to the endoplasmic reticulum and is also secreted into the extracellular matrix and space.
- Contains TPR repeat domains and a coiled coil; requires iron ion and vitamin C as cofactors for its dioxygenase activity.
