- LDLRAP1 (also known as ARH) is an adapter protein that functions as a clathrin-associated sorting protein (CLASP), essential for efficient endocytosis of the LDL receptor (LDLR) in polarized cells such as hepatocytes and lymphocytes.
- It binds to phosphoinositides and stabilizes the interaction between LDLR and the structural components of clathrin-coated pits, facilitating LDLR-LDL complex internalization.
- LDLRAP1 may also participate in the internalization of other LDLR family members and is required for trafficking of LRP2 to the endocytic recycling compartment.
