- The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) is a cell surface glycoprotein that mediates the endocytosis of cholesterol-rich LDL particles, playing a central role in maintaining cellular and systemic cholesterol homeostasis.

- The receptor also serves as a cellular entry point for multiple viruses, including hepatitis C virus, vesicular stomatitis virus, HIV-1 (via Tat protein), Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, and several alphaviruses.

- In Western blotting, a major band at ~95 kDa is expected; additional bands may appear due to glycosylation, phosphorylation, or alternative splicing products.
- For immunohistochemistry (IHC-P) and immunofluorescence (IF/ICC), optimal detection may require antigen retrieval; expect membrane and punctate intracellular staining consistent with receptor cycling.
- Since the antibody cross-reacts with mouse and rat LDLR, it can be employed in rodent models; nonetheless, titrate and validate in the relevant species tissue or cell line.
- For ELISA applications, the antibody can be used as a detection reagent; pairing with a suitable capture antibody may improve sensitivity.
