• LAP3, also known as cytosol aminopeptidase, leucyl aminopeptidase 3, and proline aminopeptidase, is a member of the M17 family of metallopeptidases.
• It functions as a Zn²⁺-dependent enzyme that preferentially removes unsubstituted N-terminal hydrophobic amino acids from peptides.
• In the presence of Mn²⁺, LAP3 displays a specific cysteinylglycine-hydrolyzing activity on Cys-Gly-S-conjugates, contributing to the metabolism of glutathione S-conjugates.
• The enzyme plays a role in glutathione turnover and the degradation of glutathione S-conjugates, which may be important for maintaining cellular redox homeostasis.
• LAP3 is localized to the cytoplasm.
